Minnesota Facility Revitalization Grants Results
The First Children’s Finance Minnesota Team is pleased to announce the results from our first round of grants for the Facility Revitalization Grant Program. First Children’s Finance received 1,343 applications with more than $14.2 million of requests in the first application round.
A total amount of $4,615,766.40 of grants were awarded to 513 applicants in the in augural application round. Grants were awarded to:
- 51 For-profit child care centers
- 27 Nonprofit child care centers
- 6 Certified centers
- 424 Family child care providers
- 1 Legal, unlicensed provider
- 4 Start-up child care providers
Notably, $1,124,277.61 of grants were awarded to BIPOC-owned child care programs.
A majority of grants were awarded to applicants who requested improvements for their facilities. Some of the most common uses of the awarded funds were fences, flooring, outdoor play equipment, wall repair and painting, window and door replacement, child-sized furniture and appliances.
The Facility Revitalization Grant Program supports the quality of child care environments by financing facility improvements. As a result of the pandemic and low enrollment, many child care entrepreneurs have delayed facility maintenance. The facility grants are an opportunity for child care businesses to make needed improvements and ensure smooth operation of their child care services.
The current round of applications for the Facility Revitalization Grant Program is currently open from May 31 to June 6, 2022.
